Coming of Age Movie Recommendations

Coming of age is a term which means the transition from childhood to adolescence or from adolescence to adulthood. At that time a lot of things affect our growth and development.

The theme of coming of age movies are usually about romance, friendship, or family problems. Movies with this genre are fun to watch, because they are very relatable to our lives.

Here are my coming of age movie recommendations:

1. The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012)

High school freshman Charlie (Logan Lerman) is a wallflower, an introvert who always watching life from the sidelines, until two senior students, Sam (Emma Watson) and her stepbrother Patrick (Ezra Miller), become his mentors, helping him discover the joys of friendship, music, and love.

2. The Edge of Seventeen (2016)

Everyone knows that growing up is hard, and life is no easier for high school junior Nadine (Hailee Steinfeld), who is already at peak awkwardness when her all-star older brother Darian (Blake Jenner) starts dating her best friend Krista (Haley Lu Richardson). All at once, Nadine feels more alone than ever, until an unexpected friendship with a thoughtful teen (Hayden Szeto) gives her a glimmer of hope that things just might not be so terrible after all.

3. Lady Bird (2017)

A California high school student (Saoirse Ronan) plans to escape from her family and small town by going to college in New York, much to the disapproval of wildly loving, deeply opinionated and strong-willed mother (Laurie Metcalf).

4. Eighth Grade (2018)

Thirteen-year-old Kayla (Elsie Fisher), a teenage girl tries to survive the last week of her disastrous eighth grade year before leaving to start high school.

5. The Breakfast Club (1985)

Five high school students from different walks of life endure a Saturday detention under a power-hungry principal (Paul Gleason). The disparate group includes rebel John (Judd Nelson), princess Claire (Molly Ringwald), outcast Allison (Ally Sheedy), brainy Brian (Anthony Michael Hall) and Andrew (Emilio Estevez), the jock. Each has a chance to tell his or her story, making the others see them a little differently. And when the day ends, they question whether school will ever be the same.

6. Little Women (2019)

In the years after the Civil War, Jo March (Saoirse Ronan) lives in New York City and makes her living as a writer, while her sister Amy March (Florence Pugh) studies painting in Paris. Amy has a chance encounter with Theodore "Laurie" Laurence (Timothée Chalamet), a childhood crush who proposed to Jo, but was ultimately rejected. Their oldest sibling, Meg March (Emma Watson), is married to a schoolteacher, while shy sister Beth (Eliza Scanlen) develops a devastating illness that brings the family back together.

7. Moonrise Kingdom (2012)

Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, Moonrise Kingdom tells the story of two twelve-year-olds Sam (Jared Gilman) who fall in love with Suzy (Kara Hayward) and decide run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing off-shore - and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in more ways than anyone can handle.

8. Stand by Me (1986)

After learning that a stranger has been accidentally killed near their rural homes, four Oregon boys decide to go see the body. On the way, Gordie Lachance (Wil Wheaton), Vern Tessio (Jerry O'Connell), Chris Chambers (River Phoenix) and Teddy Duchamp (Corey Feldman) encounter a mean junk man and a marsh full of leeches, as they also learn more about one another and their very different home lives. Just a lark at first, the boys' adventure evolves into a defining event in their lives.

9. Dead Poets Society (1989)

A new English teacher, John Keating (Robin Williams), is introduced to an all-boys preparatory school that is known for its ancient traditions and high standards. He uses unorthodox methods to reach out to his students, who face enormous pressures from their parents and the school. With Keating's help, students Neil Perry (Robert Sean Leonard), Todd Anderson (Ethan Hawke) and others learn to break out of their shells, pursue their dreams and seize the day.

Those are my recommendations, feel free to add them to your watchlist.

Happy watching!!! :D
